One Year Blogiversary & INTL. Giveaway

Guess what January 3rd was?

My Blogiversary

Guess who had no clue until I looked it up on January 3rd?

This girl.

So, I did a Twitter poll, and a few people did it, so it’s been decided that today I’ll do my blogiversary post and celebrate by…

Giving you all a tour of my bookshelves.

Prepare yourselves, we still haven’t really worked out how many shelves we need and we’re still trying to find space to put all this crap that we own so the pictures will be scary in the sense that there’s no sense of order, it’s just chaos. Pure chaos. And mess.

Also, to celebrate my blogiversary I would like to do an international giveaway for a book depository gift card worth £10. It’s not much but I wanted to do something, and I promise there’ll be more giveaways to come this year.

My Bookshelves

First up, my Ikea cube shelf, which, I’m not putting a full picture of because it’s basically blocked by random game consoles and accessories and random pairs of shoes…oh…and a drill. [Looking right at it as I type, shuddering as I realize how messy I am]

The Cube shelf is mostly for my YA books as they’re the ones I own the most of, but we also have had to use this shelf for board games and puzzles and videogames which is why everything’s so smooshed in it. Oh and random videos apparently. Yea, that’s right that bottom right corner picture is Star Wars IV-VI on VHS. Boom.

I try to kinda keep it by genre, generally, but this go it’s literally been like ‘if it it fits, it sits’

You’ll note a Harry Potter lego set, may I just say that was a Christmas present to myself and the husband from my sister-in-law? She knows me too well.

I…I can’t get over how messy this all is! I couldn’t even take a picture of one of the cubes cause it was blocked by so much shite. Bahaha. Okay upward and onward [well downward shelf wise]

On the plus side, these shelves are slightly neater? Maybe?

Anyway, I have a whole shelf dedicated to Cassandra Clare cause she turns out books like I eat chocolates. Also, Mortal Instruments holds a special place in my heart as it was the first YA series I really read after the Harry Potter books.

I also have some books I’ve bought for the spawn AND myself, and I’ve kept them here for now such as Artemis Fowl and Percy Jackson [not pictured here]. The Worst Teachers book is hers too, spawn prefers humorous books and graphic/comic books, I love seeing her develop her own tastes. Anyway, you’ll also see I have a cube of manga, that’s right, all manga there, and it’s three rows deep of manga lol. [Why does that sound dirty?]  I’m actually surprised by how many books I’ve actually read in these four cubes, go me, but haha the rest is all like 50% read, 50% forgot I owned.

Onto the other shelf in our tiny living room!

IMG-4400

Fortunately, this one is public appropriate to show you the full shelf lol. You’ll notice this is mostly classics, and hey, what can I say, I do love classics, as does the husband so this is more our shelf whereas the black cubicle one is definitely like all me lol.

I also love to collect older books so the first few shelves are the ones I find in charity shops while the bottom shelf as like our B&N pretty editions lol

And now we’re off to the basement/ground level!

Here we have historical fiction, ‘chick lit’ and more classics. As well as one set of my HP books and my Tamora Pierce books. ❤ The bottom shelf is like all Agatha Christie behind those other mystery books.

On the right we have….wait for it, nonfiction. There are reference books for musicology studies and the general nonfiction that the hubs and I can both bond over. Except he reads boring things like Napoleon stuff while I’m like ‘hey let’s read about actors and the Romanov dynasty’ lol.

Where will we go next? To our bedroom! [Bookshelves only, pervs]

Now, the bottom right picture is actually a different shelf, it’s a small one we keep our TBR books on, and you know, whatever else needs to go on there. You’ll spy Wolf Light and Curses & Kisses on the top of that shelf, I’m so excited to read those lol. The taller shelf holds signed/special edition books and my husband’s Hemingway and philosophy books as they’re important to him ❤

I know I’ve got multiple editions of some books on there, but, these books really made an impression on me so I have more than one copy.

I’ve got Goldsboro and Illumicrate editions of Kingdom of Souls, Fairyloot editions of Girls of Storm and Shadow, The Beautiful, The Merciful Crow, and Serpent and Dove on the first shelf. There’s also the Goldsboro editions of The Gods of Jade and Shadow and Aurora Rising. Pan’s Labyrinth is a signed Forbidden Planet edition, and that’s the Waterstones exclusive edition of The Deathless Girls. The rest of the books are regular editions but they’re all signed and most are personalized to me, they’re the authors I’ve been lucky enough to meet!

Second and third shelf are mostly Waterstones or even Barnes and Noble special editions, and more signed by the author/signed bookplate books. There’s also a Faecrate edition of The Red Labyrinth because I really thought that book was awesome and underrated. Finally the bottom shelf, I want to point out my Goldsboro and Illumicrate editions of Blood Heir, man, I thought that book was pretty great.

There we go, I have shown you all my horribly messy bookshelves, and consider these all ‘before’ photos as we are going to be getting wall/floating shelves for the mess that is the living room.

One Year

I’ve met so many amazing people, and read so many equally amazing books, that I can’t imagine my life without some part of the bookish community. I’ve joined street teams, I’ve found friends, met lovely people in publishing, authors, and book reviewers who have influenced my bookshelves.

I could go on and on about what I’ve done, but I already did a year in review, I read a lot, over 240+ books, put up over 174 book review posts, participated in readathons, blog tours, and Book Ending events, and really all that I can think to write about is how happy it’s all made me and how much fun I’ve had. This is all thanks to the people I’ve encountered and without them, there wouldn’t be this post.

Wouldn’t be here without you either.

Sending love and wishing you all the best, let’s see what another year will do on this blog. [Still updating my Patreon stuff, and will be bringing back Comparing Notes, just for starters]

Now onto the important stuff!

Giveaway Information

Giveaway is for a 10 gift card for book depository, it is open internationally, to be entered for it just comment on my blog OR F/RT the tweet about it. That’s it! [If you comment on here but don’t want to be entered in the giveaway for any reason, just state that you’d like to be exempt]

Some Of My Favorite Re-Reads

Hey all! It’s Sunday, I’m tired and still have yet to start packing for Friday, so, I’ll be doing that tonight after some ill-timed coffee drinking later.

Anyway, I definitely love rereading books and wanted to share some of my favorite ones to reread.

NOTE: You’ll notice a pattern with these, but since I’ve started really interacting on the bookish communities on social media, my reading has diversified, and I plan on making a post of planned rereads for next year with my diverse reads I’ve found.

So, here we go!

Screen Shot 2019-12-15 at 9.57.26 AM

Sorry to say I’m quite predictable in this first one, I do love to reread the Harry Potter books but typically I’ve only reread books 1-4, because after the other three came out I was in the last couple of years of high school and a slave to homework and college applications. But I have started to read the first one with my mini.

Anne: The Green Gables Collection

Another I love to reread, and this one is much easier as I have it on my kindle so whenever I feel like it, I go and reread whatever book I like in the series. I’ve read the whole thing at least twice through, books 1-7, and other works by Montgomery.

Screen Shot 2019-12-15 at 10.02.44 AM

The Lucas Film’s Alien Chronicles trilogy, an absolute favorite of mine that I have been talking up for like a year on this blog lol, if you ever find this at a library or somehow in a store [they’re out of print by now I think] then I highly recommend them if you’re a Scifi fan! I’ve read this series 3x, I think, and have read the first book like 3.5x lol.

Remember Me

Where Are the Children?

I tend to reread a few of her books a lot, like every Christmas I reread the Christmas themed ones of hers that I own, and I reread Loves Music, Loves to Dance and a couple of others, but these two are my ultimate rereads. Especially Remember Me as it’s what I like to call my comfort read. Sometimes when I’m just not in the mood to pick up a new book or maybe just feeling a little blue, I pick this up and read a bit of it, and I’ve read it a total of about 4x in whole. Where are the Children? I’ve read about 3x I think. Every few years I pick it up and give it a read.

The Immortals Quartet by Tamora Pierce, another long favorite of mine, I’ve read it around 3-4x and haven’t in a while so I think it’s time for a reread. I think that this is another comfort read of sorts, my first real big fantasy kick just right before Harry Potter…I think, Idk guys, I’m getting old, memory’s fuzzy. Anyway, I love this, like, so much, and will die on that hill of love.

Five Little Pigs (Hercule Poirot #25)

This was my first Agatha Christie book, so maybe that’s why I keep coming back to it, but I make sure to put a few years between each reread, since I know I’ll eventually forget most of the details, I let that time-lapse and pick it up to discover the mystery all over again lol.

Brave New World

This book opened my eyes as a kid and I think that the impact of it will keep it as one of my most treasured reads, I will say it was a bit heavy to read it when I did, for me personally, but again it had an impact and I’ve read it multiple times, especially as society gets just as emotionless as Huxley predicts. Scary, but accurate like most dystopia.

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)

I can’t help it, I love dystopian novels, and this one really captured my attention, so I’ve read this trilogy in its entirety about 3x and plan on. reading it again soon. This one and the ‘Matched’ Trilogy by Condie are my top YA dystopia picks I think!

Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1)

Lastly, this one, well, after finding out what kind of a person the author really is, I haven’t reread it but it was powerful to me as a kid and I reread it over and over again until the cover fell off my copy actually lol. So, it saddens me that such a work about being an outsider and overcoming that is unfortunately written by a big huge dickhead.

There are more of course, but I can’t’ recall them all but these are always at the top of my list to go read again..well…aside from ‘Ender’s Game.’ So, what are some comfort reads of yours? Anything you’ve reread at all or want to?

November 2019 Fairyloot Unboxing!

Sit down my children, and let me tell you a story, a story of how Hermes shipping decided to play me the fool and make me want to flip tables.

My Fairyloot box was accidentally shipped to my old address, user error, but the people at Fairyloot were super nice and understanding, I explained I could probably get the box, but they said if not, no worries they would mail it to my new address when it got sent back to them, in the scenario that I couldn’t get to it.

Cool, no pressure.

I get the Hermes App so I can keep an eye on the package, it says ‘oh hey, we’re going to try and deliver this on Saturday’ and I’m like ‘yaaas this is great because I’ll already be around my old address then for family things. Perfect.’

Hermes: Okay we’re gonna deliver this between 10-2.

Me: Cool, okay I’m ready.

Hermes: Oh okay make that between 12-2.

Me: Still not a problem! I’ve set my preference to leave it on the ‘porch’ so if I’m not there, that’ll work out.

Hermes: Oh yea we got that preference. We got you.

Me: Awesome, that’s a relief!

Hermes: *cackles*

Me: …Wha-what?

Hermes: We totally left it with your neighbour.

Me:…Wait, what?! Which one?!

Hermes: Idk, the one named Young.

Me: …I..I don’t know their names! It’s a complex, what’s their number?!

Hermes: Peace Out.

Me: Nooooooo

I then proceeded to knock on every single neighbour’s door asking if they had a black box for a Haley Flores at number 14. No one did, and then lo and behold, the last door we knocked on…

Me: Hi, did you get a package earlier today?

Neighbour: Yea, about half an hour ago, it was for number 11, I already gave it to them!

Me: oh…no. Well, do you know who Young is? They say my package went there.

Neighbour: Yea that’s me, but I didn’t get a package for number 14.

Me: hmm, maybe it was mislabeled…

I go to number 11, an elderly woman, and wait forever, we talk, she says she had the package but it was for her and she’s already opened it.

Guys. I was like ‘omg this old lady has stolen my Fairyloot box, what world is this?’ But I’m also like ‘well she’s opened it and it wasn’t a black box, it can’t be for me, but Hermes says that’s my package.’

I knock on the neighbour’s door one last time.

Me: I’m so sorry but what colour was the package?

Neighbour: Oh, it wasn’t really a package it was a large odd-shaped parcel.

Me: Ah, thank you…

We laugh about where in the world my package could be, thankfully the older woman did NOT rip me off and faith was restored in humanity and destroyed in Hermes.

I write this off as possibly being a loss if the tracking number was connected to the wrong package, well, who knew where the hell it could be and I told Fairyloot the odd update.

[Okay it was more like a couple of days later.]

Screen Shot 2019-12-02 at 4.11.45 AM

Ahahaha, WHAT?

Well, it seems they duplicated the tracking number, and in the end, they left it outside the door of my old place on the ‘porch’ as requested and I was able to pick it up yesterday on my Husband’s lunch break.

Now, onto the actual unboxing now that storytime is over!

This means…

IMG-5577.JPG

Okay, all cozy, let’s get this started

IMG-5602.jpg

Ah…patch…very cute! But, I’m not a fan of patches, so, I’ve offered this up on Depop already, but, very cute!

IMG-5603.JPG

SPIN THE DAWN WOODMARK!! IT’S SO PRETTY And I love this book![But also so fragile feeling, so I’ve put it somewhere safe, but it is gorgeous]

IMG-5604.JPG

This was my favorite thing from the unboxing, it’s divided up into months and is SO HANDY and USEFUL. YAY!

IMG-5605.JPG

Of course, I’m a huge Potterhead, so, this is already on my Christmas tree and I adore this wooden ornament.

IMG-5606.JPG

I’ve never used a phone holder/ring so, I’m really excited to try this one out, but, I plan on using it AFTER I get back from holiday as I use a wallet case at the moment and it comes in handy for holding things lol.

IMG-5608.JPG

The Tarot cards are GORGEOUS and from ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’ but…if you all read my review of it, you know I am not a fan, so, I’ve put these up on Depop too lol, but they are incredibly pretty!

IMG-5610.JPG

Could..could this be, a secret box?!

img-5611.jpg

IT IS! And guess who has put all her bookmarks in this already? That’s right. This Girl!

IMG-5609.JPG

The book

IMG-5612.JPG

I admit I had not heard of this, it’s gorgeous though and has lovely black sprayed edges. I plan on joining in the Fairyloot read-along for this.

So there we have it, the saga of getting and unboxing my Fairyloot November 2019 Box

Bookending Autumn – Which Witch?

Today is my last day of hosting! Starting tomorrow Chiara @ Bookworms Anonymous takes over as awesome host and she’s got some awesome prompt ideas!

Thanks to Sam and Clo for putting together such a fun and awesome even as BookEnding and I am so happy to be participating in BE Autumn!!

Which Witch?

If you could be any witch or warlock from any book, which witch would you be and why? Would you be a Hogwarts student? Part of Coven, or maybe more like old school Sabrina the Teenage Witch?

I admittedly would have to pick Sabrina herself from the 90s TV series oooor a Witch from JK’s HP-Verse. However!

Today! The Witch I pick is…

A Witch like the one from Vasya’s family in the Winternight Trilogy. I loved the folklore and magic in this so much, and, I wouldn’t mind a Winter King to have adventures with! Not to mention the history steeped in the powers of Vasya’s family are amazing and it’s not so much about being powerful as just believing there is no limit to what you can do [and of course once you hit that limit, trying to survive despite the odds lol]. Not to mention she’s got ties to certain well-known people of folklore which I won’t say and spoil it if you haven’t read the books. A witch who helps the spirits of the house and forest, one who can see things others can’t, well it just sounds great to me.

There’s always a special place in my heart for Hogwarts Witches and Wizards and the gem that was Sabrina, but, it’s okay for me to pick something different every now and then lolol.

Today’s was a short prompt on purpose, I just wanted everyone to have a bit of lazy fun on this Sunday, and I hope that you all enjoyed the prompts I gave.

Feel free to use the featured image!

BE Autumn -Study Group

Thanks to Meeghan for a really fun prompt, as she is today’s host for BE Autumn! The Featured Graphic is also by her!!

Thanks to Sam and Clo for putting together such a fun and awesome even as BookEnding and I am so happy to be participating in BE Autumn!!

Prompt Explanation: Fall is back to school and you need to organise a study group. Pick eight characters and discuss which subjects they bring their expertise to. (Note: You can pick any subjects, or number of subjects, you just need to tell us why each of the characters!)

Subject: Math
Character: Henri
Book: Angel Mage

This boy can almost sense if one coin has gone missing from a pile, not to mention just a glance at the pile and he’ll tell you how many are there and how many are missing if any. I need this in my life to help with math lol.

Subject: P.E./Gym
Character: Nona Grey
Book: Red Sister

I mean honestly….how could I not choose this mad skilled woman?? Nona is a boss when it comes to physical exertion and endurance, definitely need her help as just the thought of running makes me want to nap.

Subject: Computers/Tech
Character: Noam Álvaro
Book: The Fever King

He knows what to do with computers even before he becomes fever struck and able to have tech-amazing powers! So, good, he can help me pass this class for sure lol.

Subject: History
Character: Anne Lawrence
Book: The Necromancer’s Bride

Considering Anne is immortal, I feel she’ll have a lot to offer in a history study group. Do I need to stress the fact she’s immortal, lol?

Subject: Biology
Character: Lottie
Book: The Art of Taxidermy

Lottie’s fascination with dead things is pretty useful, she has dreams of being a taxidermist which means she’ snot squirmish with dissections…unlike me who forgot to turn in hw and refused to dissect a baby pig or turtle for extra credit to pass…so…I took the second half of biology again lol.

Subject: English
Character: Ken Z
Book: The Importance of Being Wilde at Heart

Ken is a devout lover of Oscar Wilde and has a knack for words, so I think he would be super fun to study with!

Subject: Fashion
Character: Maia Tamarin
Book: Spin the Dawn

I didn’t take fashion nor am I sure if it was offered in my HS, but I know it was offered at the school where I worked as a sub! So, here we go, Maia is perfect for this!

[This Child is adorable]

Subject: Lunch
Character: Ron Weasley
Book: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

…hey look, most of my subjects were music-based or I don’t really care about them, so, I’m picking lunch, damn it. And who better to join me than Ron Weasley? He and I would be the perfect eating duo.

Well, those are my subjects and characters, what about you all?

Tag Time: Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Thank you Jamsu for tagging me!

I am a pretty big Buffy fan so this made my day lol

Buffy: A Character Who Lives A Double Life

June from Marie Lu’s Legend books. Is she on the side of the Republic? The Patriots? The Colonies? Haha I mean I know but still, watching her try and navigate as a double agent is awesome and so much fun.

Willow: A Badass Witch
A Badass Witch…I mean does Ead count? I mean she gets accused of it so we’re going with it, I love Ead from The Priory of The Orange Tree.
Xander: A Character who Just Provides Comic Relief

Altair from We Hunt The Flame gives me absolute life and makes me chuckle so much. I’m actually pretty hard to make laugh while reading a book but Altair’s hilarious.

Dawn: Favorite Sibling Relationship
Fred & George Weasley from Harry Potter. I adored their twin relationship…pardon me while I go sob in a corner now.
Angel: An Extremely Broody Character

Alec Lightwood…I mean he grows out of it, eventually, but he was a broody little shit at times.

Cordelia: A Character Who Undergoes Major Growth

Hesina from Descendant of the Crane. She starts out as a seeker of truth, but she comes to realize sometimes the truth is more than we can handle.

Spike: A Character With A Redemption Arc

Balthazar from Bad Breed The Necromancer’s Bride/ Gaslamp Gothic series. I cannot think of a character more deserving of this atm, and he’s pretty great.

Giles: A Parental Figure

Oshe from Kingdom of Souls was such a breath of fresh air, a supportive father who loved his. daughter and had no reservations on showing affection. More of this, please?

Faith: A Character With Questionable Alliances

Draco Malfoy, I mean, let’s be real, I question even his choice in goons.

Tara: A book With LGBTQIA Romance

The Veiled Threat, a kickass female Elven Pirate Captain and a pretty awesome Princess. Need I say more?

I tag
Everyone.
HOARD THE TAG, LOVE THE TAG, MAYBE SOMEDAY USE THE TAG.

Hey guys!

I finally caved in and got a book box!!! I’ve really been wanting to it was just a matter of funds and also if the book was the one for me, in this case, I knew what the book was or I mean I was like 90% sure lol and I was right and it was one I wanted.
