In fact, I really thought everything was so pretty and I am so happy I got it. Still blame Michelle for her amazing unboxings which led to me getting one.

I picked the Fairyloot August 2019 Box and so watch out because this unboxing means spoilers and if you don’t want any, then look awaaaaay.

5 Books I would Save in a Fire

Hey guys, sadly it’s Michelle’s last day for hosting BookEnding Spring19 so click here to see her awesome kick-ass post. She also just has a kick-ass blog in general, so if you . missed out her prompts please go check them out!

[Thank you to Sam & Clo for putting this event together!]

I think she decided to try and make us sweat it out by giving us this prompt lol

Your house is burning down, quick! Save 5 books! But which?

Evil. Pure evil, and yet as pure evil usually is, it’s also pure genius!

Instead of prepping for this, let’s see what comes down to me answering this on instinct!

1.

You can pry Agatha Christie from my crispy dead fingers. But, in this case, I can at least make a decision on which one I would save above the others, oh I LOVE all of her books that I’ve read so far, but, this one is really high up there for me.

2.

If I had to pick a favorite from this series, I suppose it would be the fourth one because I’m sometimes a romantic at heart. You know everyone 50 books or so. But I’ve reread this series more than any other, even Harry Potter, so, why I’d love to save all 4 when everything’s going down in flames…I’d pick this one and move on to others.

3.

So you’ve all heard me go on and on and on so annoyingly about this trilogy, and here it is again. Well, the second one at least. You see it’s not necessarily my favorite out of the three, I don’t think I could pick a favorite, but I accidentally ended up with a copy signed by the author! I bought it used off Amazon as this thing was out of print even when I was buying a secondhand copy back in the time of dinosaurs. Well, it arrived in the mail, I flicked through it, and there it was, signed by one of the authors I’ve admired most in all my time as a reader! I’m saving it lol

4.

I can’t help it, I’m a huge Dickens fan and the copy of A Tale of Two Cities that I own was my Mom’s, I stole it lol shhh she doesn’t know, nor does she read this, I mean I’m sure she saw it on my shelf for the years it took me to move out and has probably deduced as such by now, lol. But because I love this and it is Mom’s and it’s pretty and leather looking, I’d save it.

1.

Go ahead. Judge me. You all should have known this was coming. Why save the first over the other six? Because of the memories I associate with it, this book was a very defining read for me in my preteen years and it’s always going to be important no matter what.

The only question is; would I save the first copy I owned, the illustrated, or the Slytherin copy?

There we have it, five books I chose and now feel horrible as if the others now know and feel less loved, gonna go hug my bookshelf now.

[Sidenote: Huh this is my 100th post!]

Toodles!

Hmmm I would have to say that I’m going to surprise myself here and whip out Dead Man’s Blues. It’s rare we get an author who fixes all the little problems from the first book in the second but Celestin does it, and I’m so glad he does.Untitled design (7).png

2

That would have to be this guy right here. The Crying Machine by Greg Chivers, it hit me so much harder than I thought I would, I’m like in puppy love with it. I mean there’s a lot of others too but not getting as much notice so we’ll give TCM the love this time.Untitled design (6).png

3

I want to say Descendant of the Crane (like Michelle who tagged me!) because I mean who wants that book to end? But to give us some diversity in answers, I’m going with, Crown of Feathers because OMG that book!!!!Untitled design (8).png

4

Oh man, so many, here’s one of my charity shop favorite hauls!Untitled design (9).png

5

I’ve been reading some dark books lately haha, I mean, like, I could use a nice fluffy break, but, I would say this was my sweetest read as of late! Untitled design (10).png

6

Oooh okay there’s a lot but I’m gonna post my usual obvious go to answer in my case.Untitled design (11).png

7

Uhhh….hmmm…I think I’ll have to have a repeat answer on this! If you’ve read this book then you KNOW, but if not, go read and find out if you like!Untitled design (12).png

Who am I tagging?

At this point I don’t know who hasn’t been tag, so please, take this tag as a gift and hoard it and use it, or if you need an easy fun tag to do before Monday and the holiday’s over, have at it, my friends!

Toodles, dears!

Read for the very first time

Thanks, Clo for another fun prompt to do! Check hers out here!

[Thank you to Sam & Clo for putting this event together!]

What books would I want to read again for the very first time?

[Get it? Madonna’s Like a Virgin?? Bahaha ok I’m done]

For series, There’s one, once more very obvious answer from me

I can’t help it, I would love to reread the magic of Harry getting all those letters, to have Hagrid come out to get Harry, after having dropped him off 11 years prior and Harry’s first foray into Diagon Alley. That’s what I would choose.

Chronicles of Narnia would have been on this list if it hadn’t been for the fact I’m not finished reading it. So it gets the honorable mention for now.

What about other books? Because quite frankly I could probably fill this with just series and that’s not what I want, I want to explore a bit more.

So what Sci-fi Novel would I want to read again for the first time?
Probably

Ender’s Game

or Dune

And the Agatha Christie read I wish I could read for the very first time?

[By the way, this is my fave screen adaptation of it, and I’ve seen most of them]

I think I would also have loved the chance to read The Forsyte Saga for the first time.

[Another great screen adaptation but despite this face, we do not like this character, remember that! It’s just the only gif for this and I wanted to stick with the theme lol]

I always envy people reading or watching something I love for the first time, cause they’re getting that moment of amaze and joy that you only get once. But! The great thing about a reread is you etch it into your heart a little more each time, so there’s solace in that.

So there we have it, some of the books I would love to read for the first time over again.

[Sorry, couldn’t help myself, this song was in my head the whole time writing]

Toodles!

My Top 5 [YA] Fantasy Series

Hey guys, today I’m bringing you my favorite YA fantasy series. These are all favorites of mine so, there’s not really a particular order this time! Here we go…

5. The Gemma Doyle Trilogy

ratingiconratingiconratingiconratingiconratingicon

This trilogy was one of the first as a teenager to just suck me in,  break me, put me together again, and then repeat. I loved it and it’s something that I recommend with such, like, hope, I truly wish those who decide to read it love it as much as I do but it’s so not for the faint of heart. I only rec this to those who love darkness and beauty all wrapped in one. I have Libba Bray’s Diviners but I haven’t gotten around to it yet and I hope to. I honestly think Gemma is one of my favorite protagonists ever. (I WILL GO DOWN WITH THAT SHIP)

4. The Chronicles of Narnia

ratingiconratingiconratingiconratingiconratingicon
I need to be upfront, I only got to book four as a child, but, I plan on reading the rest. I ended up just pausing and forgetting as I went on to read other things at that time. My favorite so far had been The Magician’s Nephew. There was something extra magical about it for me and I actually read it first as well so I didn’t read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe first like some do. One thing though I know, I always feel like Susan gets a bit of a crap outcome, so, that may have been why I dragged my feet with reading the rest. Still a land of magic that has stayed in my heart.

3. His Dark Materials

ratingiconratingiconratingiconratingiconratingicon
Honestly, this one rocked my world to its core. Philip Pullman doesn’t mind about doing things that can cause an uproar in the real world. People were not happy with this book but I was, I was thrilled. And not to mention his world building just floored me. Lyra is another favorite protagonist of mine and the fact that we get to see her again in the second Book of Dust just has me screaming like a fangirl, and oh yes, I totally preordered it. This is one of the few series I also could get my husband to read, he hated me afterwards due to who his favorite characters was, but, it was totally worth it because he loved it as much as I did. Still can’t get him to read La Belle Sauvage though, bahah.

2. Immortals

The Immortals was one of my favorite and first forays into proper fantasy. I mean I read others but this was one of the first YA/Middle Grade, aside from Harry Potter. And also like HP, it is also one of the handful of series that I reread frequently. In fact I’m due for another reread but I have so many things to read this. year, we’ll see what happens haha. This quartet focuses on a girl named Daine who has wild magic. Her powers remain my favorite out of all the magical powers I’ve read about and that’s impressive. Not to mention Tamora Pierce just dominates at writing strong women, and Daine is no exception to being a strong female in Pierce’s writing-verse. And it’s a book where I love the couple. Yes, that’s right, me, the cynic.

1. Harry Potter

Am I that predictable? Yes. Do I care? No. I was the generation that grew up with HP books coming out, doesn’t make me a bigger fan than anyone else, it just means that I had to deal with waiting for the books to come out, so really, the rest that discovered it afterwards are awesome for that reason haha. But no really, like anyone can, I discovered this as a child, in fact I read the first book when I was 11, I had refused to read it the first two years it was out because it was all my friends would talk about, but afterwards, I was hooked like everyone else. There’s still nowhere I would rather be than Hogwarts or Diagon Alley, or even the Burrow. They all feel like home to me.

There we have it, my top 5 for this week! Next top 5 will be Manga. And don’t be put off, these were the ones I read as YA and you can bet my Fantasy picks will be including so many more diverse books, I already know Descendant of the Crane will be a favorite, halfway through and it’s gripping and engaging and all around amazing!

Toodles!

Mailbox Monday

I’ve decided to join the Mailbox Monday book blog meme today, brought to you by Leslie @ Under My Apple Tree.

Today was a good day for me, not so much for my poor postman.

I can say that my mini-me now has her own set of Harry Potter books! [Bahaha like I would give her mine!]

I would include a picture of her set, but, I’m tired and the books are like two rooms over, so, too much work! I will tell you they are all the celebratory editions so they all match and it makes me quite happy to say so lol.

If you’re curious they look like this:

^ Picture is from Brotastico on Ebay lol

Then, of course, I got something for myself! I present to you my newest book additions:[mind you I bought these before I went crazy at the charity shop!]

I got a great deal on those used, but they look brand new! This does mean that I’ll have to wait until Rebel is on paperback before I buy it, you know if I love the series but I feel like I will, if I don’t love it I’ll probably donate it.

This week I’ll be finishing Book of Dust; Belle Sauvage and Serving the Servant, so I’ll have at least one review if not two this week along with a February Wrap-up and February Book Haul post!

What book mail did you all get? I totally want to know, so please drop a link or tell me in the comments.

Anti-Valentine’s Day Tag

THE RULES:

  • Link back to the blog that tagged you!
  • Answer the 10 anti-Valentine’s Day questions provided.
  • Come up with your own 10 anti-Valentine’s questions for blogs you tag.
  • Tag ten other bloggers to do the tag! [Jesus H. Christ, who hasn’t been tagged? Help me out here guys!]

Name a cute romance in which you will go down with the ship.

Gemma and Kartik

What’s one underhyped romance you want everyone to read?

Name a relationship in which you’d rather toss into the fuck it bucket than go down with it.

Bella and Edward

[I’m so sorry, but I can’t, I just can’t….but here, to prove I don’t hate Meyer with every fibre of my being…..]

Name a book in which the romance overpowered the plot but you actually enjoyed.

The Host

I’m not going to say this was a favorite of mine, but I didn’t hate it and really, I didn’t mind the romance in this [and in my opinion a plot like that didn’t need romance so the fact that I’m like ‘eh, cool’ says a lot lol]

What book features an ideal date you would like to go on with your partner/potential partner one day?

I would love to go to the Yule Ball, with Draco, but, you know hubby works too.

A book that had no romance but you wanted to have romance?

The Crystal Cave, we had Merlin growing up and he had one tryst, but, oh I would have loved to have had a romance in his growing up years!

Who’s your favorite stabbing character, one who would wield a weapon in a heartbeat?

Can Katniss count? She leans toward flying stabby things, but man does she have some mean aim!

A ship that never happened but you want to squish those characters together and WANT to happen.

Draco and myself. Whoops. Who said that? Hmm I’m trying to think here, hmm. Okay, Blackburn and Audrey Rose [who does that unless they’re in trouble? Just uses all the first and middle names??] Not that she deserves him. And I could get the hate for him, but honestly, honestly, why make someone out to be a bad guy who is only just a little stupid on arranged marriage etiquette?

A love interest you hated so much you would rather by squished by your TBR than fall in love with them.

Audrey Rose Wadsworth.I would squish her, squish her like a bug I say!!! I’m not going into this in depth. JUST SQUISH!!!!!

A fictional crush you would murder to get out of a sticky situation.

I…Don’t know, I mean none and all. Depends on the situation, you feel me??

*******************************************************************************My Questions:
1. What’s your favorite RomCom? [I know it’s not a book but hey it could be based off one!]

2. What’s your favorite tragedy? [Is there a ship that you indeed have to go down with, are you huddled in the corner crying by the end of their story?]

3. Which minor character romances would you love to have their own story?

4.  You’re least favorite couple in all of literary history?

5. Is there a character [evil or maybe just amoral] that you think love could redeem?

6. Which relationship do you think would do better by breaking up?

7. What character makes you want to shove them off a bridge because of their behavior in a relationship?

8. Quick you can only save one person from your favorite couple, which one do you save? [think of Titanic but with a tinier piece of wood, WE ALL KNOW LEO COULD HAVE LIVED KATE!]

9. What’s your favorite non-romantic book?

10. This isn’t book related but how much do you love 50% of chocolates? -Shoves a whole box into mouth- Just asking for a friend.

Tagging: Whoever Wants to be tagged! If you want to do this let me know so I can add your name and ping you!
