Blurb:
A forgotten past, a dark mage, and an unyielding curse.
Another team beat free-spirited archaeologist Olivia Perez to the dig of a lifetime, and now she’s left with the choice to wait for scraps or brave a dangerous, dusty tomb in hopes of finding other priceless artifacts. Her reward? A mysterious key she has no idea is cursed. Soon, Olivia realizes she’s brought home more than just an ancient rarity.
Malevolent visions begin to plague her. Unnerved by what they reveal, she casts away the key…unknowingly placing it into the waiting hands of a dark mage bent on destruction. Only when a shifter agent from the Paranormal Intelligence and Tracking Organization arrives searching for the key does Olivia realize what a huge mistake she’s made.
Forced to team up with the ill-tempered shifter, her journey to reclaim the cursed key leads down a twisting path of dark histories, dangerous magic, and deadly obstacles. But Olivia’s efforts to take back the ancient relic before the dark mage can destroy the lives of humans, shifters, witches, and fae alike are thwarted by her own dark past…and a price steeper than what she’s willing to pay.
Fans of Tomb Raider and Ilona Andrews will love the blend of urban fantasy, magical adventure, and paranormal romance in THE CURSED KEY from Miranda Brock and New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Hamilton!

My Review

This was such a fun read! It’s one of those books while it didn’t have anything that ‘blew me away’ it definitely was enjoyable and filled with things I like. Adventure, a hint of romance, paranormal beings, magic, and a very Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider vibe going on.

Olivia is an archaeologist, she has wandered into the jungle, hoping to find something the other excavating teams haven’t yet, and that’s when her world gets turned upside down.

She finds a key, and suddenly I’m reminiscent of the curse of the mummy King Tut, what seems like just plain bad luck is more than that, she’s plagued with visions and it has nothing to do with heat fatigue from the climate as they persist after she returns home.

The whole time Olivia and the reader are unsure of who she is, you know there is something different to her, the mage she runs into proves as much, but, you don’t know what.

Has the key given her magical powers or was she born with them and they’ve been hiding?

I loved the mystery to Olivia and really thought the banter between her and her shifter friend was cute and fun.

The romance is slow burn which is a favorite of mine and though the book did keep me interested I felt that the magic system and worldbuilding could have used more focus. I am hoping that is rectified in book 2 as I definitely intend on reading the next one.

Again, a solid read, nothing incredible, but definitely fun and worth a snoop!

Thank you to Xpresso Tours for an eARC of this to read and review honestly as part of the blog tour.

Miranda.jpg

From an early age Miranda Brock has always loved fantasy and adventure everything. Since she doesn’t live in a world of enchanting powers, mythical beasts, and things unbelievable she has decided to write about them. My Review

I love novellas, especially when they’re used as teasers for series and so I definitely enjoyed this one. It was of course a very quick read and got you interested enough to want to read more.

Another thing with novellas though means that there’s not exactly going to be a five paragraph review for it, haha. But it’s not needed.

O’Neale has a nice clear style of writing and her characters and world seem to be very expansive, I want to know more about the Gabriel hounds, the elementals and the different kingdoms, but she gave us enough to satisfy us while reading this…and to automatically make you want to go read ‘Storm Born.’

Rowan’s a sympathetic character, he’s young and isolated from his people and despite how his mother has ruled, he wants to be his own leader and change things for his fire court.

However, will he ever get a chance to be king?

Just when it seems his time to rule has come, Rowan’s given a task. If he slays Kalin though as he’s been ordered, is he really any better than his mother as a leader?

I loved how conflicted he was and also I was immediately intrigued by Kalin.

Hands down though, Rowan’s best friend Marcus was my favorite character, he seemed so loyal and awesome.

Anyway this is a solid intro to a fantasy series and you can bet I’ll be reading ‘Storm Born’ next. Thanks to Xpresso Tours for a copy of the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours for the chance to do this cover reveal!! I am a huge fan of Off Planet and you can find my fangirl review of it, here. OffBalance.jpg

Synopsis:
Broken, beaten-down, and plagued by nightmares, Amihanna di Aetes is surrounded by the Aunare race that makes up the other half of her heritage, but she feels alien amongst them. She’s not sure which is worse: SpaceTech’s overt hatred of Aunare or the Aunare’s covert hatred of halfers. She hears their whispers whenever she enters a room and sees her death reflected in their eyes. Amihanna doesn’t know who to trust anymore, but she hasn’t survived this long by ignoring the warning signs all around her, especially when her instincts are screaming that a familiar choice is coming: flee or fight.
Her parents assure her everything is okay—that there won’t be any reason for her to fight, let alone flee—but with Amihanna’s sudden return, questions arise among the Aunare: who should be blamed for the start of a full-scale war with SpaceTech, how much danger will the war bring, and is Amihanna truly fit to be the next high queen?
Honestly, Amihanna wants to forget all the politics, her betrothal to Lorne, and the possibility of being queen. Her needs are much more basic. All she wants is a solid night’s sleep where she doesn’t wake up screaming with the phantom pain of her skin burning. All she needs is to live without fear of a mob tearing her away from her family. All she hopes for is a chance to dream of a future instead of constantly fighting for her right to live.
And yet, somehow, everything she does leads her back to Lorne. He always seems to know when she’s about to break under the pressures of her new life. His quiet patience is wearing Amihanna’s protective walls down, and she’s terrified of what will happen if they fall.

The Necromancer’s Bride – Blog Tour

TNB

ratingiconratingiconratingiconratingiconratingicon

Synopsis:
Forgiveness is not Gabriel D’Ange’s strong suit.
A self-appointed soldier of God with a penchant for ruthlessly punishing his enemies, he vanished after Anne Lawrence stabbed him with his own dagger.
The smart thing would be to let him go.
Unfortunately, Anne’s life isn’t just lonely without Gabriel. It’s insufferably boring.
Determined to heal the rift between them, she goes in search of her tempestuous former lover, black parasol in hand and daeva magic crackling at her fingertips. But Gabriel has his own plans afoot and Anne finds herself drawn into one of his tangled webs, much against her better judgment.
Gabriel’s nemesis has reappeared in Brussels, a vile slaver who’s plundering the Congo Free State with the blessing of King Leopold. Gabriel might be willing to give Anne a second chance, but not until Jorin Bekker’s head is lying at his feet.
Back in London, the quasi-reformed necromancer Balthazar sets his sights on the same quarry. He holds a very personal grudge against Bekker — and killing him might be the only way to keep Gabriel D’Ange from Balthazar’s own throat.
When the hunters collide at a lavish gala thrown by the king, Anne learns just how far she’ll go to save the man she loves.
[Note: The Necromancer’s Bride is the sequel to A Bad Breed, which should be read first.]

My Review

This is just yet another example of Kat Ross’s perfection.

I’m obviously not biased in anyway, amiright?

But honestly I fell in love with her Gaslamp Gothic series when I had the privilege to read and review Bad Breed with Xpresso Tours earlier this year. This is everything I like in a romance book, where the romance is blended in flawlessly with awesome action scenes, supernatural, and Victorian-era awesomeness.

Not only did I get more of my favorite pair, Anne and Gabriel, I also got to see more of Balthazar who I find myself having a huge soft spot for. Now this is the fourth book in this series but it’s only necessary to read Bad Breed before it, the other two do not have to be read in order/with it. But. I mean, if you want more gothic awesomeness, I say, go ahead and read those first two as well.

The satisfaction I got from Anne and Gabriel’s storyline in this made me ecstatic! I was like jumping for joy while reading this. [Not really, I’m old and can’t jump anymore, but, I do a bit of a happy wriggle of sorts]

I did miss seeing Vivienne but I do understand why there was not a focus or entrance of her in this book other than in reference. It was necessary in a lot of ways and it worked out so well.

Also this may have one of the best epilogues ever, I’m just ‘forewarning’ you.

Anne is on a mission, she wants Gabriel to know her reasons for the choices she made the last time they saw each other. She knows he doesn’t forgive easily but her heart won’t forget easily either and he left his mark on it. She also acknowledges that there is something more of a ‘beast’ in her than she’d like to admit, and Gabriel is the only one she can share this information with.

While though she pursues Gabriel, he has a score to settle and not even love can deter him. This also leads to an unlikely if not temporary alliance.

What does this mean for our lovers? What becomes of them? Could it perhaps be hinted out in the title? Who knows! Find out next week on-

Okay just kidding on the find out next week, but honestly there’s so much in this novel, it’s packed with so much to enjoy.

Five huge cups of coffee from me, I think I will just go read this again now.
