Special Editions, Special Prices

**This is not an attack on Special Editions, consumers, or Publishers/Authors/Companies who make them, I freakin love them, but, I do want to talk shop for a bit!**

I

Love

Special Editions

Whether it’s a steel book BluRay, a shiny console, a pretty videogame, or worst of all for my self-control, a pretty book.

I didn’t even realize special editions of books existed really until like last year. Don’t get me wrong, I knew there were different editions, but, special? I was in the dark guys. The only thing I had preordered previously as far as books went was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and I did get a ‘special edition’ of that, the one with the slipcase. But I mean…that was yonks ago lol. So now I’m happy to preorder special editions when I can. They tend to be okay on price, sometimes the shipping is heart-wrenching. I won’t name names but 20.00 for shipping a 20.00 book did hurt my soul and wallet lol. However, I was lucky enough to have. the funds to do so.

I’m not here to really talk about the preorders of them or buying them out of stores which also have some great special editions. [For instance, I preordered Chain of Gold from Waterstones rather than getting a box I wanted because I couldn’t justify that sort of spending this go around.] No, today I want to talk about reselling.

There’s no harm in it, it’s good! You don’t want a book, you need money, maybe just wanted shelf space? This is such a great option! I’m all for reselling and trading! Sometimes the books we are intending to sell even gain some value, which is great! Woo more monies!

But is there a line to draw?

I’m guilty of pushing that line, I really wanted a special edition of a certain book, someone was selling it for 54.00 and I bought it, of course, these special editions are usually at least half that sort of price. But, supply and demand my friends, it’s a bitch.

I’ve seen the Goldsboro special edition orange sprayed edges of ‘Priory’ go for 140, and I’m pretty sure that’s on the cheap side of what a special edition can go for. There’s also the chaos that is the selling of the Aurora Rising Goldsboro, the Fairyloot editions of like…any book, and they all seem to get a bit out of hand. Not because it’s wrong for people to sell their books, but because us as consumers and they as buyers have no idea what prices are okay, there’s no issue in selling what you have for the price you set, but man is it hard on people to find special editions if they didn’t have a chance to preorder/order at the time the books went on sale. Even Waterstones editions seem to go for a hefty price for a few books.

It can be unfair to those who don’t have the money, they’re stuck seeing people put books up for sale that they have been searching for, and are unable to afford the crazy inflation.

I guess what I’m asking is, is there a better way we can do things? I’m genuinely asking, by the way, not being patronizing. Do we trade more? That can be difficult when you don’t want what someone has to offer, or sometimes someone doesn’t have anything to trade Do we maybe wait a certain period of time before jacking up prices? Maybe three months after release we just go hogwild but until then we try to let people purchase it at a lower price? I’m not sure but I feel like there’s a huge imbalance here. ESPECIALLY WHEN PEOPLE BUY TO SELL. And these are the only people I take issue with. I watched those Queen of Nothin editions sell out and then I watched people IMMEDIATELY sell them, just like with some of the other special editions, this is just the more current example.

I mean some people were selling them before they were even in their hands, and others the moment they got the box. I get selling the stuff in the boxes if you only want the book, that’s fair enough, but to immediately flip the book, and sell it for a crazy amount of money? It just seems unfair and it’s been on my mind a lot lately.

Part of the reason for that is because I’ve considered selling some of my special editions, but I hesitate because I’m unsure what to price them at. I could put it up high, the editions are ‘special’ enough but it feels wrong but at the same time, well hey, I need money. So, again, I’m searching for some sort of guideline on this, and I wish we had more discussions on the cost of books. So, here we are, I’m chaotically discussing the price of special editions.

If you preordered a book for 16.00, and aren’t in dire need of money, maybe try not to sell it for 75? I don’t know, I’m not sure if I’m just whining.

What do you all think?

Holiday Book Haul

Hey guys! Time for me to share what I got during my holiday!

**I didn’t actually get any books for Christmas aside from my amazing gift from Secret Santa, so these are books I bought and had mailed ahead and a couple of giveaways and an ARC as well, the rest are ones we bought with holiday money mostly from used bookstores lol**

**You don’t need to spend money to be a book blogger, so don’t let this haul affect your opinion on that, you’re valid as long as you enjoy reading!**

Book Mail

I bought this off one of the many FB groups I’m on, I bought it when I thought I wasn’t going to be able to get my hands on the FairyLoot edition but now I have this beautiful OwlCrate edition and the magnificent FairyLoot edition.

IMG_4371.jpeg

Words cannot express how fortunate and happy I felt to be sent an ARC for one of my absolute favorite releases of 2019. Holding this made me feel like tearing up and then I also bought someone’s OwlCrate edition.

I’m still a HUGE Tamora Pierce fan and I’ve had the other two books of this trilogy forever, but finally, I now own the third one!

I won a couple of books from an Instagram giveaway, Aileen Erin is a new fave author of mine so I was really excited. I asked them to mail them to a certain address and they addressed it to the person who lives there…so…lol they’re personalized but not to me!

November 2019 Fairyloot Unboxing!

Sit down my children, and let me tell you a story, a story of how Hermes shipping decided to play me the fool and make me want to flip tables.

My Fairyloot box was accidentally shipped to my old address, user error, but the people at Fairyloot were super nice and understanding, I explained I could probably get the box, but they said if not, no worries they would mail it to my new address when it got sent back to them, in the scenario that I couldn’t get to it.

Cool, no pressure.

I get the Hermes App so I can keep an eye on the package, it says ‘oh hey, we’re going to try and deliver this on Saturday’ and I’m like ‘yaaas this is great because I’ll already be around my old address then for family things. Perfect.’

Hermes: Okay we’re gonna deliver this between 10-2.

Me: Cool, okay I’m ready.

Hermes: Oh okay make that between 12-2.

Me: Still not a problem! I’ve set my preference to leave it on the ‘porch’ so if I’m not there, that’ll work out.

Hermes: Oh yea we got that preference. We got you.

Me: Awesome, that’s a relief!

Hermes: *cackles*

Me: …Wha-what?

Hermes: We totally left it with your neighbour.

Me:…Wait, what?! Which one?!

Hermes: Idk, the one named Young.

Me: …I..I don’t know their names! It’s a complex, what’s their number?!

Hermes: Peace Out.

Me: Nooooooo

I then proceeded to knock on every single neighbour’s door asking if they had a black box for a Haley Flores at number 14. No one did, and then lo and behold, the last door we knocked on…

Me: Hi, did you get a package earlier today?

Neighbour: Yea, about half an hour ago, it was for number 11, I already gave it to them!

Me: oh…no. Well, do you know who Young is? They say my package went there.

Neighbour: Yea that’s me, but I didn’t get a package for number 14.

Me: hmm, maybe it was mislabeled…

I go to number 11, an elderly woman, and wait forever, we talk, she says she had the package but it was for her and she’s already opened it.

Guys. I was like ‘omg this old lady has stolen my Fairyloot box, what world is this?’ But I’m also like ‘well she’s opened it and it wasn’t a black box, it can’t be for me, but Hermes says that’s my package.’

I knock on the neighbour’s door one last time.

Me: I’m so sorry but what colour was the package?

Neighbour: Oh, it wasn’t really a package it was a large odd-shaped parcel.

Me: Ah, thank you…

We laugh about where in the world my package could be, thankfully the older woman did NOT rip me off and faith was restored in humanity and destroyed in Hermes.

I write this off as possibly being a loss if the tracking number was connected to the wrong package, well, who knew where the hell it could be and I told Fairyloot the odd update.

[Okay it was more like a couple of days later.]

Screen Shot 2019-12-02 at 4.11.45 AM

Ahahaha, WHAT?

Well, it seems they duplicated the tracking number, and in the end, they left it outside the door of my old place on the ‘porch’ as requested and I was able to pick it up yesterday on my Husband’s lunch break.

Now, onto the actual unboxing now that storytime is over!

This means…

IMG-5577.JPG

Okay, all cozy, let’s get this started

IMG-5578.JPG

IMG-5607.JPG

So pretty…NOW GIMME THE MERCH

IMG-5601

Lani Taylor quoted Sleep mask, and omg it’s so soft! I don’t use these, but considering I’m going on a long flight, this is going on the plane with me, YAY FOR EYE PILLOWS AND COVERAGE.

IMG-5602.jpg

Ah…patch…very cute! But, I’m not a fan of patches, so, I’ve offered this up on Depop already, but, very cute!

IMG-5603.JPG

SPIN THE DAWN WOODMARK!! IT’S SO PRETTY And I love this book![But also so fragile feeling, so I’ve put it somewhere safe, but it is gorgeous]

IMG-5604.JPG

This was my favorite thing from the unboxing, it’s divided up into months and is SO HANDY and USEFUL. YAY!

IMG-5605.JPG

Of course, I’m a huge Potterhead, so, this is already on my Christmas tree and I adore this wooden ornament.

IMG-5606.JPG

I’ve never used a phone holder/ring so, I’m really excited to try this one out, but, I plan on using it AFTER I get back from holiday as I use a wallet case at the moment and it comes in handy for holding things lol.

IMG-5608.JPG

The Tarot cards are GORGEOUS and from ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’ but…if you all read my review of it, you know I am not a fan, so, I’ve put these up on Depop too lol, but they are incredibly pretty!

IMG-5610.JPG

Could..could this be, a secret box?!

img-5611.jpg

IT IS! And guess who has put all her bookmarks in this already? That’s right. This Girl!

IMG-5609.JPG

Gorgeous, right? I am in love with this and plan on framing it I think…and now…

The book

IMG-5612.JPG

I admit I had not heard of this, it’s gorgeous though and has lovely black sprayed edges. I plan on joining in the Fairyloot read-along for this.

So there we have it, the saga of getting and unboxing my Fairyloot November 2019 Box

IMG-5600.JPG

October 2019 Fairyloot Unboxing!

Hey guys, another late post, after November 5 I should have my charger here and will do some mega bloghopping aaaaand, hopefully get back to a more normal routine.

For my birthday we had a busy time with the move and all, and when my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday I asked if I could get the October Fairyloot…and of course he got it for me because we were able to afford it and he’s amazing.

So here we goooo

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

IMG-4906

Another pretty box which I will SHRED OPEN.

img-5376.jpg

I don’t feel bad for like ripping into this, I was way too excited given that it had vampire things in it. VAMPIRES. OCTOBER. ALL THE YES. And another awesome quote on the box too.

But what’s next….what’s inside? DUN DUN DUN

IMG-5375

Amazing art stuff, love the Fairyloot bookmark! I’ll be getting rid of the tarot cards and the Vampire art print. Beautiful art but these weren’t my things, I’m also passing along my Twilight sticker to someone more deserving than I. BUT still, look how gorgeous the art is on these things!

IMG-5382

Please try to ignore the dog hair. I vacuumed RIGHT before I took these photos, and the dog came along and shook herself on the rug as I took photos….she’s an ass. ANYWAY. I was really really really really [really x100] excited for these coasters. They are so amazingly aesthetic and we actually needed coasters too, so, two birds with one stone as they say. LOOK AT THE ADORABLE BAT! Onward we go!

IMG-5377

Guess who already wore this hat a couple of times? Me. Get it? ‘Bite Me?’ Vampires? Ahahaha….Okay I thought it was hilarious. I did get some odd looks though wearing this as I dropped the kid off at school…oh well! It’s really warm and cozy, I was afraid it would be maybe too light when I heard people mentioning getting a beanie, but it’s a good material and I love it!

img-5373.jpg

I’m a huge Dracula fan as I unashamedly admit to loving almost all adaptations to it along with the amazing original tale, so, this book sleeve, I screeched like a small child on Christmas. [Do they shriek? I feel like mine shrieked] and then I found out it had a zipper and it was like finding out a dress had pockets. I LOVE IT. Living somewhere where it rains so much [lol so, so much] I find that a book sleeve goes a long way here, an extra layer of protection for my books crammed in my backpack on the train.

IMG-5380

I always need more candles, like, I burn through them like I go through candy. I can’t help it, they smell nice and make me happy and make me feel cozy. So, give me an Anne Rice Vampire inspired candle that smells freakin amazing, and I will forever love you. Do you hear that Fairyloot? You’ve sucked me in!! Anyway, another great candle, and I am really enjoing the mix of scents, but especially the blood orange. [Get it? BLOOD orange? Ahahaha]

IMG-5372

We also got a pin, and I was so excited over it that I immediately put it on a pin banner that I got for my not collection of pins and didn’t want to take it off. Look at that bat! [Yes it’s the bat one!] I don’t really buy pins though I did splurge for the YALC Priory pin and bought the Phoenix Rider one, because, well #FirstRidersStreetTeam. The rest are just free ones I’ve gotten with preorders and the like, so getting the bat one made me super happy, it’s so cute!

Okay, are you all ready to see the book? Yaaaas? If not, look away!

Or don’t

IMG-5384

I included the Author interview, the letter from the Author and the awesome French Quarter map that came with this box. I went to school in Louisiana, no, not in New Orleans but I did go there a few times and have some great memories associated with it and I love architecture in the French Quarter [Built by the Spanish btw] and so having this book set in New Orleans with Vampires and mystery and amazingness, I needed it. So this is how we ended up with the October Fairyloot 2019 unboxing, because of this book haha, however I’ve loved most of the things in it and I can’t wait to get to wear my hat more and read this beautiful edition of ‘The Beautiful’ look at those sprayed edges!! LOOK AT THEM!

Did you get a box this month, or did you get something at all this month that you’re just raving about it?  Let me know in the comments!

My First Book Box/Unboxing!! [Fairyloot August Spoilers]

Hey guys!

I finally caved in and got a book box!!! I’ve really been wanting to it was just a matter of funds and also if the book was the one for me, in this case, I knew what the book was or I mean I was like 90% sure lol and I was right and it was one I wanted.

In fact, I really thought everything was so pretty and I am so happy I got it. Still blame Michelle for her amazing unboxings which led to me getting one.

I picked the Fairyloot August 2019 Box and so watch out because this unboxing means spoilers and if you don’t want any, then look awaaaaay.

First reaction: Awww nice box…NOW I’LL TEAR YOU OPEN

Guys, the love for these is real. Like. This lion’s mane needs scrunchies

IMG-4911.JPG

A CANDLE! And it smells so nice! (Chocolate+Coffee for those who can’t see the label)
And I did hate Thomas Cresswell the second least out of Stalking Jack the Ripper so this was nice, and it’s purple, ugh, my fave color!

IMG-4912.JPG

So I know the lighting isn’t great but I was like screeching in excitement over this Tolkien pocket mirror. LOOK AT IT

IMG-4913.JPG

Oooooh, what’s in here? Such a pretty container!

IMG-4916.JPG

HOLY BATMAN IT’S CUTLERY WITH A LUNAR CHRONICLES THEME

IMG-4915.JPG

(Though I don’t see me using a cushion cover)

IMG-4917 (1).JPG

img-4918-1-e1566655217957.jpg

Lovely quote from the Mistborn and again this pic isn’t as nice because I’m just too excited to focus.
