This summer’s production is to die for.
The Ghostlight Youth Theater Camp isn’t the best program in the world, but to Faye, it’s home. — Even when the drama turns deadly, Faye remains determined to make this the best production the Ghostlight has ever seen.
MY REVIEW
I grew up an orchestra kid who doubled eventually as a choir kid, so I was surrounded by lovable people who were musical obsessed (I was not lol). Let me tell you, Anderson did a really good job and I think had a lot of fun handling some of the more frequent stereotypes we can see with musical/theatre/choir kids. I really liked the cast, side and minor characters included. I appreciation the more diverse cast. AND THE SETTING. A theatre summer camp turned into your usual summer camp horror was *fantastic.*
A murderer is on the loose but the campers won’t let that deter them from putting on the best show ever. It’s Faye’s last summer and same with most of her group, so they have one last chance to be on stage together; so they try to keep going. Maybe it’s just a prankster, that would keep the parents from bringing them home, maybe it’s all done and just a bad accident. But eventually there are more suspicious deaths and so Faye and her friends decide maybe they can try and figure out who it is before it’s too late.
Despite being YA, Anderson doesn’t shy away from death and more importantly lives by the golden rule of horror; no one is safe. So it makes it that much more intense and you’ll never know if your favorite character will be next.
I could barely put this down, I mean I really didn’t want to. There was too much at stake, Indeed to know how did it and I needed to know if certain crushes would turn into something more, if they were going to get any closer to a readied performance, and if they were going to make it to the end. I need to know all the things and I need the answers *now* while reading.
This goes on the top of my list for YA horror and mystery and you can bet I’ll be screaming about this one again next month too.
Hands down one of the best YA horror/thriller books I’ve ever read. Great pacing, diverse cast of characters, fantastic setting and I enjoyed the couple of twists and turns I didn’t quite figure out with the rest. Perfect for your Halloween styled TBRs with its release September 30th. Full review to be posted on my blog later this month! Thanks so much to the publishers for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion. Publication date is 9/30/2025, so mark your calendars!
