My Review
I picked this up during my recent spat of graphic novel/comic purchases and the spawn and I adore it! A sweet tale of finding yourself and holding onto yourself when the world may want you to hide. There’s love, there’s fashion, there’s gorgeous art, what more could we ask for? It is incredibly sweet. There is a love story as well and it’s also just as sweet as the rest and the ending is just the best honestly.
5/5 cups of coffee from me, spawn has totally read it several times.

On the cursed island of Envecor, everyone is doomed to wear their heart outside their bodies, and are immortal—unable to die, to change, to have children— until they find their soul mate.

My Review
Alright this was an unexpected buy, wasn’t on my radar at all until Free Comic Book Day. Turns out this was fortuitous lol. The author and illustrator were both there to sign it and I read it immediately when I got home. This art style is really a favorite of mine and the colors were so rich. The story is intense in its art and storyline but in the best of ways, and it’s got such a whimsical world for such an ‘intense’ story. The characters were all so much fun and I already have read it again, I just truly enjoyed it.
5/5 cups of coffee from me!

Set in an alternate matriarchal 1900’s Asia, in a richly imagined world of art deco-inflected steam punk…

My Review
As gorgeous as this was, I did struggle about halfway through. It wasn’t that the story wasn’t engaging it was that it got super confusing, quickly. I felt I needed more background for a lot of the political ins and outs of this though I did love our MC. It’s super gory which wasn’t an issue for me, more of just a heads up if it’s not your thing. That being said, aside from the confusion, I definitely wanted to know more and I want to keep reading. I like world and the steampunk feel is just breathtaking art wise. It dragged in the middle for me but I’m already curious about the ending of volume one and ready to get to volume 2!
