Anyone else just perpetually exhausted this year? lol I need coffee in an IV drip at this point.
Today’s discussion post is a little different, I know it’s not a major issue but it’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.
I’m in a crap ton of Book Groups on FB, this is so I can find out what book boxes are doing what books and find out about other cool books and goodies.
There is one thing that seems to be a universal though across the different groups. Shipping delays.
Now, we all know the delays were going to happen, but it feels like some people have forgotten that the delays are still happening for the same valid reasons.
I’m not calling anyone out for being upset, it’s understandable, and I’m also not going to sit here and justify some companies delays which aren’t due to shipping but rather various other things which may or may not be those companies faults.
I think what I’m getting at is it’s hard to watch how mean people can be when things don’t go their way.
There aren’t as many planes and many books and items are having to be shipped via sea/ocean/over whatever body of water you want to add, and that can take SO much longer.
[I definitely know from experience as basically I owned was shipped that method and while I arrived at my new home in May, my things didn’t come till about September, and they left before me lol]
This means, it’s out of the hands of publishers and companies, book boxes and bookstores alike, and we need to remember that and treat staff with kindness. I totally get venting, it’s such a pain, especially because right now not only are shipping delays but delays at publishers as well. The publishers are having delays as all these books are being published now, and on top of that the ones that were pushed back that got later release dates are in that pile of ‘to print’ with the publishers.
A lot of us who are angry and show it in rather rude ways are coming from serious places of privilege. So many people can’t get certain books or boxes because they didn’t ship to their countries before and/or can’t ship now because of restrictions, others have always had to deal with serious delays due to their locations as well.
And yet.
And yeeeeet.
Some are so angry that it feels like I can feel the heat of their tempers through my laptop screen. Again, anger is fine, but this sense of entitlement during a pandemic doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
We need to try and find some patience, as annoying and trying as this is, there’s a bigger picture, which once more doesn’t cancel out whatever people are going through, but, this is the time where we can all band together and complain. We just have to remember that when we complain to a staff/company that those are real people and how we word things should reflect that.
Anyway, I’m getting off my soapbox to go cry over some delays, while simultaneously being grateful that I can get these things in the first place.
Who’s with me?!

*holds hands up* ME. MEE! I’m perpetually exhausted.
This is a very thoughtful post and you’re right. During times of struggle, pain and challenges, it’s always always good to be just that little bit more kinder and understanding. I’m with you love.
