My Review

I have a small confession to make, though I adored the premise of PS I Love You and enjoyed the read, it didn’t knock me off my feet like it probably should have. To be fair to this book I was in a super bitter point in my life, so we’ll say that had some sway.

Onto another, bigger, confession, this book blew me away. This sequel wowed me more than the first book. And again, to be fair, not in such a bitter place so I could truly appreciate this book.

I also felt though that Holly Kennedy was easier to connect with, her grief is not fresh, though it still exists, and so this gives us a chance to know her better. She’s not the same woman she was seven years ago, which is brilliant because it’s so human and natural.

Seeing that she’s moved on is also natural and it’s wonderful to read about a character that’s gone through so much to have achieved things like a relationship and a stable point in life.

Of course, this would be a very short book if everything stayed that way.

There will always be aftermath of grief, there is no expiration date of it, and no matter how much time passes it will affect you, just in different ways and because of this I could really understand so much of what Holly was going through. Grief affects all of us in one way or another.

Holly’s relationship with Gabriel gets complicated the moment she decides to do a guest spot on her sister’s podcast. At first it seems things have smoothed over, but, the podcast has spurred others on who, like Gerry, have terminal illnesses. They see inspiration in Holly’s story about her Husband’s letters and his signing off of PS, I Love You.

A club forms, the members all with terminal illnesses and all wanting to leave something for their loved ones behind.

Holly is frustrated and angered at first, she’s spent so much of her life to move on, and now they’re dragging her back in and all she wants is peace.

But is she really at peace if this has set her off her course?

Holly, in the end, finds herself entangled in this club and with its members, getting involved in so many ways, helping and growing attached.

Now, I cried during this book, there were many sad parts but there was one spot in particular that had me sobbing like a baby and if you’re curious you can ask me but I won’t spoil it. Needless to say, though you get attached to these club members and Ahearn uses this to send you on an emotional ride.

Holly’s feelings are so raw and you can understand all the choices she makes, for better or worse, and again this is what makes this novel so brilliant.
