Excerpt

“It’s too late to play the hero, captain,” The princess mocks keeping her stance solid and firm, “You’ve already said yourself, you’re the villain of this story.”
At that, Shea’s gaze snaps to her and Aster shifts uncomfortably. It feels as if the room has dropped several degrees below freezing.
“Was that how you saw me before, a hero?” Shea asks, stepping towards the bar and running her finger down one of the lengths.
Joana rolls her eyes, one eyebrow arching as she crosses her arms, “Not exactly.”
“Really? Perhaps the sweet love interest? Maybe now I can play the redeemable villain?”
Shea boasts with great sarcasm.
“Better yet: the heartless monster who gets slain in the end,” Joana coldly responds, shooting daggers in Shea’s direction.

My Review

Beautiful redheaded elven pirate captain who loves her pirate crew like family and is a kickass leader, meets, beautiful stubborn Princess who has lived a pretty isolated life.

Pirate Captain meets Princess.

Pirate Captain steals Princess.

Honestly guys this is a wild action packed ride from start to finish. I could not help loving Captain Shea Lara as soon as I read the first page. She’s great, daring, charming, everything a swashbuckling pirate captain should be.

Menesini is brilliant at writing in a fluidity that makes you feel like, despite the length which is longer than you realize, the story is fast paced and quick.

Before you know it, you’re at the end and you have to wait until next summer for book 2. [There’s a scowl on my face as I type this, patience is not a virtue of mine]

Not only do you have to wait, Menesini sets up this perfect fantasy, but she waits until the end of the book to kind of lay it on you, like what direction this is going to go and so you’ve had a great resolution to the story in this book and yet it’s like ‘surprise, you’re going to have to wait to find out the rest about this’ and she does it without making it a cliffhanger necessarily! [Sneaky author!!!]

You have a really lovable cast of characters and a really amazing world that I’m excited to see more of.

The few creatures we encounter are amazing, and same with the lands which consist of kingdoms, islands, queendoms.

There’s beautiful clothing, elves and their land of Erebos, sweet romantic overtures, steamy moments, seafaring monsters and adventures, political intrigue and plotting, and tales of gods.

Overall? Well paced, I loved the love story, Shea is amazing, and I really want book 2.
