5 benefits of buying physical books

So what is the prompt? Well I hope the title gave you a hint, I’m going to list out 5 reasons why I might buy physical books, and why!

1. I’m accident-prone. REALLY accident-prone

I have had the unfortunate skill set of being super clumsy since birth I would say. This means that sometimes my books really take a beating. I LOVE checking out library books but the amount of stress I feel to keep those nuggets of literature safe from myself knows no bounds. Owning the book means I just throw a hissy fit and eventually rebuy my book if something happens to it.

2. It’s easier to keep track of my TBR.

When I have a billion Kindle books (which I think do at this point) it’s easy to just keep adding more. I mean those lovely little devices hold so many books which is a huge plus, but, things can get lost in the chaos. Now I’m not saying I see everything on my overflowing bookshelves, but, there’s a better chance of me being able to see what I’m going to read or not going to read in some cases and organize them accordingly!

3. They won’t ruin my eyes…as quickly

I am guilty of staying up super late with the Kindle, it’s so easy to do, so easy. And while I definitely will stay up late with a good book no matter the format, I can rest at ease knowing that when I do that with a physical book I know I’m not just tossing my eyesight directly out the window, not to say I haven’t ever read in a dimly lit room squinting. Let’s face it I’m probably already going blind, but at least this way it’ll be a little slower lol.

4. Mostly my germs and my germs alone.

One thing when I check out a book from the library, I sometimes have to resist the urge to just wipe it down to the point of no return. This stems from knowing that when we have library books we get cozy with them, I know I do, many a time have I flung a book away from me just to avoid accidentally sneezing on it. Some people are not so thoughtful. Think about that. So with my own physical copies, I don’t have to worry about where it’s been. [Though to argue, ebooks eliminate the germ worry from the library, but, this is about physical books today, damn it.]

5. They’re just aesthetically pleasing to look at

I love just sitting in the study and looking at my bookshelf. I know it probably sounds a little weird but there is something comforting to look at my books, to touch them, hold them and feel the weight in my hands and flick through the pages. Especially with the older books that I get, the ones that have a billion stories to tell with whose hands they’ve passed through let alone the one held between their covers.

There we have it, 5 reasons to throw at you for why I buy physical books!

I know my last two posts were just gif filled, but I needed something fun with not a lot of thinking, my brain is mush, I’m reading my 12th book for the month currently, and I just feel like NetGalley senses me being overwhelmed and publishers are approving my requests and cackling as they do it like a few days before the publication date as I like to try and read and review before that.
