When we meet Eagle Valiant Brosi, he is a long-haired commune kid, bullied by other kids,teachers, and his neighbors.
This is dark and dark humor wrapped up in a coming of age story and I was here for it. I read this with the Graphic Novel club and I really felt that it was a worth while read. It’s the sort of memoir that doesn’t hold back and that’s greatly appreciated. Not to mention Eagle was quite clever in how he demonstrated his younger self, with those noble to understand him. We are left out of the loop too as we are observers and so. only Eagle knows what he’s saying or those in the book that understand him at points. Eagle was also a great person to hear talk as he came to our local comic book store. 4/5 Cups of coffee for ingenuity and making me laugh at some dark/tragic experiences lol.

Dystopian manga by POC author that is absolutely FIRE with its premise? Oh please, I was a sucker for this the minute one of my booksta besties told me about it and we buddy read it. We’re going to be buddy reading volume 2 as well and let me tell you, as I’m writing this I have the urge to read it again. There are monsters in New Edyn and it seems that the only way they’re dealing with them are sending the city’s brightest top students from New Edyn Academy to fight them. Unfortunately it isn’t a job without dangers and just as some students have met a tragic end, Jabari steps in just in time to join in. Seriously, SO GOOD. Art is fantastic, I love the cast, Jabari is definitely a fave of mine already too.
5/5 Huge cups of coffee from me, think I’ll go read this again.
