They came to earth–Pestilence, War, Famine, Death–four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

My Review
Finally, I dive into this book. I’ve had the quartet on my shelves for a while. A definite pretty cover buy when Arcane Society did their editions of them.
This was perhaps a misjudgment on my part. I know what I like and it seems like this sort of vein of Romantasy might not be for me but the best part of this? I still found that this was a truly *FUN* read. The author made a world I wanted to know more of, and she did a great job with details of it; though it is post-apocalyptic it was so alive even in its dying of society/the human race.
Surprisingly it was the romance that was lacking more than the worldbuilding and plot. I would have expected the other way around with a romance book so this was a conundrum for me lol.
The romance was slow-burn, so that’s a great plus if that’s your jam. It’s usually mine but I actually found it a little too slow burn because by the time they were together, it felt like there wasn’t enough left in the book to make me really excited about it, but then again the ending…I loved that lol. I’m all over the place with this book but I think the book is also all over the place. The spiciness is there but it is quite late in the book and there we have it; the pacing is disjointed because of this. If it wasn’t such a romance-focused book, this wouldn’t be an issue other than feeling disjointed but it is, and it does keep you off balance on expectations because of this.
Sara is great and the best part of this book aside from the cool setting is the author’s voice/Sara’s voice in this. I loved the writing style it made it so readable and relatable where her feelings came in; just that the feelings could be repetitive (which makes sense in context but ya girl got tired on reading them).
Overall, it was fun but without the author’s fun writing style and world-building, I would have rated this more of a 2.5 cups of coffee. Instead because I enjoyed those two factors so much, it’s a 3/5 cups of coffee from me!
Now…I’m not sure about reading War right now, given its setting, so that may be shelved for an indefinite amount of time, or I won’t review or rate it.
