I read so much without any self-pressure looming over me last year that I do want to give a shoutout to some of my favorite reads from 2023! So here are some books I just adored:
I found this a delight, and, well, she is one of my favorite authors, but seriously, this was so much fun to read. I would re-read this in a heartbeat. I can’t wait to read more of her novels this year.
Straight up couldn’t put this down. I was here for Poppy and I’m glad I read this finally. I know I may not always love the books in this series but this first one was a fave for me.
I don’t even know that I can put into words just how beautiful and amazing this book is. It deals with some heavy issues in such an incredible way, and I feel lucky to have listened to the audiobook of this, it made it so much more impactful for me.
No surprise that I was having a rough time in 2023, so Amanda Lovelace helped me get through it.
Oh man, if you’re trying to curate some spooky reads for this year and haven’t read this one? I put it forward for your consideration because I will drop this book as a rec any day.
Guess who has a new favorite author? This girl, I read this and Trial of Sorcerers and I’m now fully here for all the books by Kova, not to mention I immediately went to buy the Air Awakens original books before reading the next book in this part.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one as I didn’t entirely love A River Enchanted and I still need to finish that duology but this one really was a win for me.
A chef’s kiss in book form. I loved this, it was SO MUCH FUN. Now gimme book 2, nooooooow. Please. I want to also know so much more about this world cause I’m obsessed lol.
This was another gorgeous book, MG perfection and I didn’t expect to get as smacked by the feels as I was by this. The writing is so fluid and I am hoping Spawn might take a peek at this, this year.
I KNOW I am ‘late’ to the party. (There’s no such thing as late in the book world, because all us readers are some kinda wizard and they’re never late) This book, I could write sonnets about it, I would WOO this book if I could. WOO.
Possibly one of the best and most original retellings I have and ever will read. Magic, Arthur, generational trauma, PTSD, academia, did I mention Arthur? Seriously, I’m so afraid to read the next one because then I’ll have to wait for book 3 to be published. I need a show for this or a movie. But like done exactly to a T of the book lol.
I adored this, and I could make it my whole identity.
I enjoyed this prequel quartet a lot and in fact, I’m actually gonna finish Bridgerton pretty soon, that’s astonishing for me as I drag my feet with almost every series. (99.9999999% of them)
MG Vampire book that is now one of the absolute best vampire books I’ve ever read and is set in my home town of San Antonio, TX, and by one of my fave authors. A recipe for success lol.
The nuances of this book…I cannot praise it enough. White gave us a book from the depths of her soul that has such diversity in its message that you don’t have to share her exact background to understand it. Deals with religious trauma and to better understand it, it might be best to read her author’s note first (it has no spoilers)! Also just 100+on the creepy factor.
…It’s over, I’m sad. That’s all I have to say on this book lol
There you have it! Some of my best reads of 2023. BUT WAIT.
THERE’S MORE.
JK, well I mean there is more but it’s not the best, here’s a little peek of my most disappointing reads of 2023 because you all should know, these were some LOW lows for me.
