MY REVIEW

Jumanji but make it horror.

I leave you all with that review, go forth and read.

Half jk.

This book was truly like a scarier, you can’t convince me 1995 Jumanji wasn’t terrifying as a smol child, Jumanji.

There’s more gore and violence for sure and that might be something to keep in mind if those things aren’t your cup of coffee/tea.

We have four teens in present day, four who were once part of a close-knit group of five. But now, they’re haunted all on one night and there’s a chance to rectify a horrible mistake of their childhood.

It’s all gaining more on the creep-o-meter from there. The friends are just basically transported almost Jumanji style into a game. This game has high stakes, find your friend before dawn or he is lost forever, and so are they.

They have no choice but to play and there are more mysteries to unravel as they play for their lives.

The pacing is on point for this sort of book, the chapters are overall long but they don’t feel like it.

A horror book is not so much about character development but Simmons manages to slip that in pretty effortlessly and really I just wanted to keep reading because of her style. We get some character background and development mixed in with such high stakes and I’m here for all of it!

There were some things I wanted to know more about/explained more so this is solely why this wasn’t 5/5.

Great pacing, creepy, downright terrifying version of Jumanji with Japanese-inspired elements, mythology, and life-or-death stakes. I would say this is a perfect read for some spooky TBRs.

4/5 Cups of coffee from me, thank you so much to Tore Nightfire for a physical copy in exchange for my honest review!
