They’ll scare you straight to hell.

My Review

This was everything I love in a thriller. It was just scary enough to keep me reading for more and the premise was absolutely amazing. It is plausible enough which is what it makes so terrifying.

In a God-fearing community like Neverton Montana, it’s inconceivable that there are those who would be born in a way that is ‘against the Lord.’ So being gay? It’s curable. And all you have to do is go to camp and have a good time. Sure.

Rose though is a golden child, she and her family would never be anything but exemplary.

So why does Rose start seeing and experiencing things that might as well come straight out of The Exorcist?

The pacing is on the slower side at the start but Chuck Tingle really sets the scene, not to mention some of the physically creepier elements that happen in this first part. Later the terror is transformed into something scarily real. Because there are people in the world who will try and ‘treat the gay’ out of you. As if it’s a disease.

In this case, the ‘cure?’ You’ll have to read and find out more.

There’s horror, found family, finding yourself, and other amazing elements in this book.

Overall this book was such a fantastic read for me and I’m so lucky to have gotten an ARC to review.

5/5 Huge cups of coffee from me. Thank you to Tor Nightfire for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
