Mini Comic Reviews!

This was a super fun pulp story. (There may have been some issues of syntax/grammar, writing this too late to recall other than a vague feeling lol) I love things set in this time period of the 30s/40s and the unique origins of our Kraken character definitely made me a fan. I think this is just a *fun* read and as I said it’s a pulp story and that should be kept in mind before diving in. If you’re not into pulp fiction (hahaha) then this might not be the graphic novel for you. The art though is just so lovely and if nothing else I would read it again to appreciate the art. I hope there’s more to this story, because I’d certainly read whatever comes next.

Thanks so much to Titan Comics for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

So! 4/5 Cups of coffee from me!

‘A.D’. is a great nonfiction look of New Orleans *after* Katrina. It’s easy to forget with time the affect that Katrina had on New Orleans, especially when you weren’t there to see the devastation. I started school in Louisiana a couple of years after Katrina and the impact was so raw still for those that had come from New Orleans or had family from there. I was very intrigued to read this and I had requested a final copy from Pantheon to read and review. I think I wish it would have been longer but I thought it was such a great look at a variety of different survivor stories and gave a glimpse into it all that gives a deeper understanding. I would highly recommend this to any lover of nonfiction or anyone that felt the crushing weight of Katrina in their lives.

Another 4/5 Cups of coffee from me!

This felt like I was reading ‘Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind’ with the art style and the art is *GORGEOUS* do you hear me?! GORGEOUS. We read this for graphic novel club but I didn’t get to hear everyone’s awesome thoughts because I was in a stage of rot myself, lovely, I know. Back to school germs for the win. I definitely felt like if the art hadn’t been so perfect that I would have rated it lower on story value but this is meant to be admired, and introspective and probably too smart for me but I loved it enough that I had to give it a higher rating it would be unjust otherwise lol.

So there we have it, yet another 4/5 cups of coffee read for me.
