MY REVIEW
First off, if you’re curious about the first book/my review of the first book you can find that right here:
Now!
Onto the review for the second and final book in this amazing space opera duology!
My second favorite crew is back! First favorite is the Chilling Effect crew, they’ll always have my heart lol -and I have reviews up for the whole trilogy for that, just sayin-.
Last we left them, shit had hit the fan; to put it mildly. Now they are running out of time to try and save the galaxy from to only the clutches from a new evil ruler but possibly the even bigger threat of an AI that has perhaps more to it than they thought.
Just like last time my favorite was Eris though I loved them all, and a second favorite would probably be Ariadne. And yet again, I’m sorry to say but Clo wasn’t my favorite but I didn’t find her nearly as ‘annoying’ (it’s not the right term but it’s close enough and I’m tired) as the last book. She had some character growth and she got to do some really neat stuff this time that I’m not going to spoil for you.
Everyone had a role to play and everyone was fantastic. These characters have been through Avern (hell), not surprising as they’re the Seven Devils but still, they were committed to finishing their job and bringing freedom to a galaxy that needed them more than they needed it. There’s so much raw humanity in their emotions, trauma, pain, joy and it’s all pretty visceral. I can say this is a heavy read as far as emotions go and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The ending was perfect to me, and I can have whatever feelings I have about that but it was still the only ending that made sense for this group and I will not spoil anything about it lol.
If you want to see who wins the game between Eris and the Archon, if king will kill queen or queen kills king again…then you’ll have to give this a read if you find the time.
4/5 Cups of coffee from me, this was a solid duology overall and if you like Becky Chambers or Valerie Valdes, I recommend this duology to you all!
