These Hollow Vows Review

Despite my ‘meh’ feelings on the last one, I had some hopes for this book. And unfortunately, my hopes were dashed.

This book continued the badly executed love triangle and with even more toxicity from the one that we watched dupe Brie the most. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone not really aware of the last book’s ending so I’m keeping it vague.

The evolution of Brie’s feelings where the triangle is concerned were nice to see, but it was the only saving grace for me.

There is peril EVERYWHERE and yet they basically come out unscathed each time and it’s always so quickly resolved. There are some instances you can argue that it’s not just instantly resolved but really they’re also not felt as urgently or deeply as they should have been. When everything is supposedly high stakes but nothing is truly in danger, it just makes it…boring.

This book was so boring for me that it kinda put me in a bit of a slump. I dragged my feet each time to pick it up and why did I finish it? Because I had bought the FL edition and I feel some sort of duty to read the books I spend a little extra on. And I genuinely was curious as to how it ended; most importantly.

The pacing is janky because of the always high stakes, and it tends to pull you out of the moments because you’re like ‘wait aren’t ‘you in mortal peril right now while eating your snack??’ so you kinda start wondering why this isn’t more pressing and so on and so forth lol.

The steamy scenes were alright but over all I could have done with more shadow stuff and less of other stuff mostly the romantic drama.

It’s clear which brother is more mature and it’s clear which one was a carbon copy of another handsome dark-haired fae and I’m over it.

I WANT SOME VARIETY WITH MY FAE. I WANT ALL THE DIFF FAE.

And it ends…better than it starts. I think it was an interesting way to do the ending as far as the crown and kingdoms go but I don’t know that it made a lot of sense logically. I sat there thinking ‘…how the f is that gonna work’ but then decided I wasted enough brain power on this and just let it go.

2/3 Cups of Coffee because I was disappointed with how this book was overall executed. But my FL set has found a nice new home and I’m happy that someone else who will enjoy these has them on their shelf now.
