My Review
Let us take a moment to admire the very pretty Owlcrate cover.
Great.
Now.
I hate giving books low ratings but this one just really missed the mark for me. There was what I felt to be a plot hole that really kept nagging me, like I am still sitting here hours after finishing this and I keep fixating on it and several other things.
To begin with, the title. It is actually a very small point to this and yet it seems that probably the second book (or others depending on how many are in this) will deal with the actual Omen.
The world-building is intriguing enough but very shallow, I think it was a bit of a missed opportunity when the author wrote such lovely descriptions.
The Characters have a lot of banter and quips. It’s quite a bit of dialogue which I usually love but this was like 2/3 banter and enough that it made the pacing feel super disjointed to me. I thought this book took place over like two/three weeks, then I found out it’s months but because the conversation continuously flows into the next one, that it doesn’t feel like time passes.
That plus the thing that I think might be an oversight/plot hole just made it an incompatible read for me.
It’s an intriguing premise, it’s Fae, it’s fun and banter and cute. But, I don’ know that I’ll read the sequel.
I will say this. Daroose was my favorite, and I will die for that character.
I just didn’t like the two love interests together, I know they were supposed to be quippy and full of tension but I found them flat, so, I gave this 2.5 cups of coffee.
