Gideon the Ninth

The Emperor needs necromancers.

The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.

Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.

My Review

I think this book has the sort of writing style and plot that you will either love it or hate it, I don’t know maybe there are lots of people who are meh about it but I wasn’t one. I adored this book and I adored Gideon so much.

This was like a Space Opera version of ‘Clue’ and uh I was 12/10 down for that.

The characters, the banter, the plot, it was all so great for me. Muir has a strong writing style that just pulled me in. The world-building is done in a way that it’s not just a list of facts thrown at you or crammed down your throat with weird character convos to provide it. She weaves it in and that’s always so exciting for me because I can get cranky when stuff is ‘plated’ for me to find out.

Gideon was hilarious and may be one of my favorite characters of all time, but I enjoyed all the characters. They were unique though I can see where someone may get confused or not care about some when we start to just kinda bop around from one to another.

I liked the pacing but I think some could find it slow especially if this isn’t your usual kind of read, a heavier sci-fi-fantasy. It can feel like nothing is happening but there are so many great details that I never felt that way.

The ending was definitely worth the build-up and I can’t believe it. I had to reread it twice because I was like *JAW DROP.*

Fantastic read, Gideon is bae, and you should pick it up if you get the chance it sounds like it is up your alley.
