My Review

This was pretty much sci-fi perfection. The actual science melding with this amazing plot that has terraforming via ‘sun bringers’ to Pluto and the mystery of a saboteur.

Seriously, this re-cemented my adoration of sci-fi. There was brilliance in the way this was set up, you were actively engaged in the engineering, terraforming, xenobiology aspects of it while still having a solid plot at the forefront. I would attribute this amazing blend of science to Dr. Kissick’s education and career; a doctorate in planetary science and a nuclear research scientist. The best part, aside from it being written by a brilliant scientist, is the fact that she pulled this off as a stunning work of fiction. I can find too much in-depth science material either dry if they don’t balance it out on the fictional aspect. But this was, again, PERFECTION.

Even the pacing is amazing. There’s no lull and it doesn’t feel rushed or as if it drags on. Dr. Kissick sets the pace firmly in the ‘we will keep making progress and make seamless leaps of time’ zone. Start to finish there was no issue on plotting and anything that seemed rushed, is probably just a tidbit or clue for you to remember as it will come around later.

The characters are brilliant and the lack of romance was a specific plus for me. I loved Nou and Lucian was fun while Edmund might have been my favorite just for his complexity. Again, stellar cast of characters. The amazing writing and on point pacing make this a super quick read without even realizing it.

AND IT’S HER DEBUT NOVEL. LIKE WHAT?! WHAT SORCERY IS THIS (Scientist and sorceress perhaps?)

I would write more but I’m just fangirling at this point. I’ve stopped saying anything useful and could probably make excited noises that only dogs can hear.

I’ll be shouting about this book for the rest of the year.
