This is a multigenerational story about a British Muslim family who suffers from tragedies, inequalities, racism, fear, loss, and so much more. BUT this is not a story of despair only, on the flip side of the things, we have…the beauty and love of religion, the acceptance of cultural differences between different communities [say, Zahra’s best friend, or, the gym owner that Saahil encounters], the love of family, hope, strength, and reunions.

This was also a story about a single father.

Do you know how rare it is to find a non-Hallmark plotline about a single Father? I LOVED it. Amjad was also my favourite character, he was kind, strong, susceptible to mistakes, full of love, and grieving in the only ways he knew how. He was such a wonderfully written character, and in truth, they all were. Of course, he is one of the older generations in this book, and there’s also his mother, so we see their views set against the two siblings, Saahil and Zahra.

I put this book up there with The Beekeeper of Aleppo on the books I’ve read that have blown me away.

Content/Trigger Warnings: Death, Airplane Crash, Trauma, PTSD, Emotional/Mental Health issues such as depressive episodes.

I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but this Arc was, quite frankly, gorgeous. You’ll see a picture of it up on my bookstagram with a mini version of this review. But, I can happily say the insides matched the outside of this novel; beautiful inside and out.

This is a coming of age tale that includes a ‘coming to life’ tale as well.
.
Eddie is the only person to survive the plane crash that took the lives of 191 others, passengers and crew on a field in Colorado.
.
Left to deal with the aftermath, both physical and emotional, Eddie becomes Edward and now lives with his Aunt and Uncle in New Jersey.
.
The problem is that Edward cannot seem to figure out how to live, he is a survivor, a sole survivor, and living is not the same as surviving or just existing as he seems to be doing the longer time goes by and people forget that he’s still a survivor of a tragedy, no matter the amount of time that has passed.

Edward is having to grow up and live all at once, but what will help him learn to do all of that?

The Library of the Unwritten- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This was everything I had hoped for and more! There's a library in Hell, one full of unwritten books, whether authors have lost inspiration or they're dead, their books all end up in the same place. Of course, every library needs a librarian and Claire is a very stern and no-nonsense kind. She has among her cohorts, a demon in charge of the Arcane Wing, 'banished' there after a failed coup, her assistant who is a failed muse, and now a newly made demon named Leto who sweats acid when he's nervous. Which can happen quite often when you're dealing with hellish adventures.

Other characters include a fallen angel named Ramiel, 'Hero' who has escaped from his book and is decidedly a very taciturn sort of hero, and Uriel, an Angel with a mission that nothing can deter.
.
Great pacing, fantastic after-life realms, not just Heaven and Hell, and an intriguing and creative plot have made this book one to enjoy beyond all measure, for me personally, and I cannot wait to see what happens next. I think the various settings and 'creatures' were my favourite aspects of this delightfully written novel. Thank you to Lydia and Titan Books for a gifted copy in exchange for my review!

Chilling Effect- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- .

Eva Innocente [to shorten her name for ease] is a Captain who is really the Jack Sparrow of space, you know if he were trying to be more legal. She’s more infamous than anything and trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes. She’s got a crew that is loyal beyond reason at times, but that doesn’t stop them from calling her out on her crap, so they’re loveable and you instantly want to be part of their camaraderie.

Eva is put in a questionable position, a secret organization has her sister, and unless she makes runs for them to pay off the debt, her sister is going to be in Cryo until they decide to use her for hard labour [mining]. The catch? She cannot tell her crew, or anyone, that this is their deal.
.
So Eva attempts to juggle her crew, keeping them at the dark, and dealing with their tasks to get her sister back. But, it almost is like she’s cursed, there’s trouble at every turn and at times you just want to shake Eva for the choices she makes, but she’s reactive and dealing with things as they come, and sometimes she just has little in the way of options/choices.
